Welcome!

Danielle van Schaik, MA, RCC, CCC

Welcome to DVS Counselling; a counselling practice located in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia.

I offer a relational framework where I work with clients to determine who they are, and what would be most helpful for them

My background is largely as a child and youth counsellor at an Island Health in-patient psychiatric facility for children and youth. At that same site, I was promoted to a leadership position as a DASW (Discipline Allied to Social Work) Clinical Lead from May 2022 to May 2023, until I left the position to begin private practice counselling. Currently, I continue to work casually as a child and youth counsellor with Island Health.

Prior to working in the psychiatric field, I was employed for a year as an educational assistant with the Sooke School District. Before that, I worked for two years as a behaviour interventionist and program assistant. Through my practicum and training, I have worked extensively with adults and families with various concerns.  My robust background ensures I can holistically consider your situation and help determine what would be most beneficial.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband of 18 years and two adolescent children. I adore my pug (who you might see in virtual sessions). I love to crochet, bake, listen to podcasts and read, as well as travel!

In the work we do together, the focus is on you, but I know when working with someone new, it can be nice to know a little about them.
