EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

"There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you" - Maya Angelou
Many times in life we experience events that could be considered traumatic. With some traumatic events, even without counselling support, we may eventually continue on with life and enjoy things as we once did. In other circumstances, these traumatic events may continue to negatively affect our relationships, work, enjoyment of life and we may wonder, will it always be like this?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapeutic modality to help those who have experienced trauma both process and heal from those experiences. Over 8 phases of EMDR, we explore your history, resourcing (effective coping strategies), identify target memories, desensitization (eye movements or tapping), install a positive cognition (what we want to believe about ourselves), a body scan and reevaluation. I enjoying discussing EMDR during a consultation and if you think this may be a helpful step in processing your trauma, even if you're unsure if it is "trauma," please feel free to book a complimentary consultation.
The EMDR International Association (emdria) has a great video that explains EMDR, and if you're interested, please click here.
